It's probably not a huge surprise that I'd cover this song, but I just wanted to talk about what it means to me for a second. I've always been weirdly fascinated by celebrity and idol culture of all kinds. Maybe as a means to make sense of my (obviously very small) experiences with it. Or maybe because it can bring out the best and worst of us. Either way, I think this song uniquely reflects on aspects of the culture that don't get talked about nearly enough. Specifically, the process of losing your identity in return for fame really resonated with me and I'm gonna dig into that for a second.

It makes sense that, for someone to "fit the criteria" or give an audience what they want, a celebrity has to be changeable. That's partly what makes Vocaloid such a phenomenon because you can project anything onto the characters. On a personal level, I've tried a lot of things over the years, been malleable with my identity, tried to be more idol-like, tried to be more interesting, and struggled with the possibility that I might be more of an "idea" than a person at times. That self doubt can make you crazy. Thankfully nowadays I'm better at reminding myself that I'm good enough and I don't need to change skins again. But this song spoke to me in a way I REALLY hadn't expected and gave me blunt force trauma to the head. So in summary, pay my ambulance fees @FLAVORFOLEY 🚑🚑🚑
