廃業する海辺の宿。最後の夜に、女将が死んだ。

晩秋、大時化の夜。
海辺の崖下に建つ、古い温泉旅館「汐騒館（しおさいかん）」。
女将がたった一代で守ってきたその宿が、今夜で終わる。

高潮が海岸道路を呑み込み、宿は波の中に取り残された。
残されたのは、女将と、三人の客と、二十年勤めた仲居。

そして夜が更けるにつれ――
波音に混じって聞こえる、女のすすり泣き。
かすかに流れる、子守唄。
誰も通っていないはずの廊下に、点々と残る、小さな **濡れた足跡**。

二十二時半。海の見える離れ「みおの部屋」で、女将が倒れていた。
後頭部に、打撲の痕。血のついた文鎮石。乱れた畳。

**犯人は、この中にいるのか。**
**それとも――人ならざる、何かなのか。**
